Amazon has announced it has donated over $100 million to charities through its Amazon Smile program. If you’re unfamiliar with Amazon Smile it is a different website with a different URL. Purchases made through the Smile.Amazon.com site produce a donation to one of the thousands of charities. You pick the charity.
For example, I do all of my shopping at Smile.Amazon.com. I’ve found that the Deals of the Day, the Lightning Deals and all other prices are the same as you find at Amazon.com. I’ve chosen St. Jude Children’s Hospital as my charity. Most everything I’ve ordered generates a .5% donation of the purchase price. I pay no extra money, Amazon makes the donation.
.5% isn’t much, but when the hundreds of thousands of people make purchases that generate a donation, the total adds up. Currently, I’ve only raised $3.66 for St. Judge, but Amazon says my donation along with thousands of others has generated over $5 million that goes directly to St. Jude.
There are featured charities you can choose that includes The World Wildlife Fund, The Susan B Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Charity Water and the ASPCA. You can also search for your own favorite charity by city or by mission.
To celebrate hitting the $100 million mark, Amazon will donate 5% of purchases to your favorite charity through November 2nd.
Shopping through the Amazon app on a mobile device does not allow you to use Amazon Smile. To do this you must log onto the smile.amazon.com site through your web browser.
